Squeeze 4: Now Serving You in Sparks!

Hey EggHead, can you believe you’ve got FOUR options where to Squeeze In these days? We are thrilled to announce we’ve opened our newest location in August! The beautiful new restaurant is at the corner of Sparks Blvd and Disc Drive, just over the hill in Sparks.
A huge team effort came together in the most amazing way to bring this restaurant to life, starting with our own Shila and Chad Morris. They worked nights, weekends and holidays since we signed the lease back in March. It may have seemed like nothing was going for a while, but behind the scenes, Shila and Chad were hiring and training associates, helping design the restaurant, meeting with contractors, ordering equipment, negotiating contracts, arranging for delivery, testing new products, interviewing new suppliers all the while running three restaurants AND raising the cutest twins in the world (well, at least THIS Gaga thinks so!).
It wasn’t just Shila and Chad, we had some pretty heavy lifting from others on our team including every associate who stepped forward to help train all the new ones. Special kudos go to our Regional Kitchen Manager, Rigoberto Mora, and General Managers Heidi Davis (NW Reno), Amanda Martinez (South Reno), and Erin O’Donnell (Truckee). A big thanks to our kitchen managers for help with training and prepping: Christian Grimaldo (NW Reno), Bubu Acosta (South Squeeze) and Amado Gomez (Truckee). We had special help from other associates as well: Allie Duby, Emily Bohlen, Maggie Hull and Laryssa House all showed up HUGE to help us get our new Sparks associates up to speed.
Behind the scenes, Eva Lipson, our Communications Manager and Nichole Holmes, our Accountant, made us look good while we were sweating bullets or smiling for cameras. Shila, you did an awesome job in all ways with the media! Chad, I’ve never seen you more calm or easy going.
In our company, we talk about being a tribe. Some companies use a team analogy, but we don’t because teams come together and then disband, but a tribe is something you belong to. We believe in the Squeeze In tribe, which we call “The tribe of excellent service through meaningful work.” You see, we actually believe serving our guests is a valuable and noble thing to do. That’s probably why we get so many great comments from our guests like the ones you see on the outside back page of this newsletter in response to the question, “What do you love about the Squeeze In?”
It wasn’t only in-house folks that made the Squeeze In come together. Our general contractor, McKenzie Construction, led by Brien McKenzie, was absolutely fantastic. The McKenzie family and their companies are pure integrity and talent wrapped in one package. We are thrilled they are part of our success and that we get to be part of theirs as well.
If you love the artistic design and flow, Gary is our ultimate interior designer (and decider), but the true work was done by Demian and Shannon O’Keeffe, personal friends of Gary and I and longtime EggHeads. They worked long hot august days AND nights getting this restaurant to look so freaking fantastic! My personal favorite art piece of Shannon’s is the Cow Screen Door toward the back, you’ve GOT to check it out. Shannon also painted the gorgeous sun in the back corner and the beautiful host desk – and so much more! And, if you love our awesome booths, you’ve got Demian to thank, he saw them in his mind, built a mini model to figure out the cuts, then custom fabricated them from scratch! He built the bench out front of the Squeeze too, hung stuff from rafters and on walls, and did his “Fix It Dude” thing in every way. Demian, I still want to see the mini booth you created hanging on the wall!
Now, for those tables, so many of you have asked! Longtime EggHead Steve Scheetz has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Squeeze for years helping us learn the fine art of epoxy, and doing incredible things with it, including several beautiful and expressive art pieces gracing every Squeeze location. Steve’s tables are completely custom, and, well, they’re just badass. No better way to say it.
So many people came together to make the Sparks Squeeze happen. We can’t thank our Founder’s Club enough. These are the fantastic EggHeads who each purchased an exclusive package to help us raise money fast and get equipment ordered. THANK YOU!
AND... as is our tradition when we open a new location, our very first day’s profits were donated to four great local pet rescue and service groups. You all helped us get the feel for the new place and we were able to write checks for a few hundred dollars each to the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe, the Nevada Humane Society, Chihuahua Rescue of Truckee Meadows, and Wylie Animal Rescue!
